UIT offers protection to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

The Baiyun International Airport in Guangzhou is one of the three largest airports in China and the most important aviation hub in Southern China. The airport with an investment of HK$19.8 billion has been in operation since August 05, 2004. It is the first airport in China designed based on the concept of aviation hub development. The airport covers the area of 15 square kilometers. The two parallel runways of the first phase aviation area are constructed according to the 4E standard. The aviation area is expected to handle a passenger flow of 25 million by 2010.

The huge daily passenger flow of the airport creates great challenge to the safety and protection work. The video surveillance system of the East III and West III airside concourses and other connected buildings of the terminal use advanced security technology, which provides 24-hour surveillance to the terminal and ensure the safety of the airport.

The airport uses digitalized surveillance system. The system can flexibly use the front-end and back-end equipments based on the needs of the airport. Flexibility is also ensured in the system upgrade, expansion, transformation and sharing resources. The system also uses network-redundancy, RAID and controller-redundancy technology to prevent single point failure.

UIT reduces network pressure by distributed storage UIT uses the fibre channel system BM2900 as the back-end storage equipment for the video surveillance of the Baiyun International Airport. The fibre channel system is installed in the East III, West III and the center. It provides more than 1,000 surveillance points, and the volume of the second phase expansion has exceeded 150TB. It uses distributed storage technology to save images, which will prevent the network becoming overloaded because of centralized storage. The fibre channel storage products of UIT also enable centralized management. Although the storage equipments are located in different areas, the equipments are still easily managed by clients with authorization.

UIT BM2900 is a 4Gb full-featured fibre hard drive product with strong storage function. BM2900 is characterized by the modular design and fully redundant and hot swappable hardware architecture. It supports 240 FC or SATA hard disks, and it has strong storage management software. The system also has high storage space, capability and reliability. It fulfills clients needs for data storage and management.

The machine rooms of most clients have a lot of equipments and complicated connections, which create huge challenge to the administrator to maintain and check the system. UIT understands the demand of clients and has improved the system while introducing video surveillance storage products. The storage facilities of UIT use humanized management model, meaning the administrators can manage the storage facilities in the machine rooms through the WEB interface in the office. The management interface uses icon illustration. Administrators will be informed of any abnormalities in the temperature, hard drive and network through the icons, and be able to fix the problems immediately.

Advanced technology ensures the efficient operation of the airport The storage facilities provided by UIT in the video surveillance system of the Baiyun International Airport do not only include component redundancy such as controller, electricity supply and fans, the facilities are also equipped with intelligent capacity management. The administrator only needs to set aside a small volume when splitting the disk drives. The system will automatically assign the volume for expansion when the storage capacity has reached a pre-specified level. The intelligent capacity management of UIT is incorporated with the MAID technology. This ensures green saving measures for the system, lowering energy consumption and expanding the system lifespan.
