UIT and Intel enters strategic cooperation to speed up the process of data storage standardization
Today, one of Chinas leading data storage service providers UIT (United Information Technology) and Intel, the worlds leading semiconductor chip maker, kick-off its strategic cooperation Strive for Prosperity, Save for Future. The two partners will combine Intels next generation data storage chip and the strength of UIT in storage system, software, products and solutions. The two partners will jointly develop an open structure and standardized data storage platform, which will lower development cost, enhance flexibility for data storage, and simplify data storage procedure. The cooperation is a milestone for data storage standardization. UIT chairman and CEO Tony Chen, Chief Technology Officer Bill Bao, Intel director for marketing storage Seth Bobroff, China Software Industry Association president Chen Chong, China Computer Federation and Tsinghua University professor Zheng Weimin, National Laboratory for Optoelectronics and Huazhong University of Science and Technology professor Xie Changsheng, and more than 100 clients and partners participated in the conference, witnessing the milestone development for Chinas data storage business.
Intel next generation data storage chip is based on Nehalem structure. The chip is specially designed for the use in embedded and storage system. It is equipped with solo, duo and 2 quad processors. The use of underclocking, hibemation and energy saving technology has created a breakthrough in the data storage chips in terms of bandwidth, data processing capability and energy saving. UIT and Intel will collaborate and share resources with each other. Intel will provide UIT with technology document support, design menu, technical support and solutions. UIT will utilize its strength in research and development. UIT will, based on technological development and market needs, combine Intel technology strategy and cooperate with Intel to develop storage platform based on the structure of the next generation storage processor, and speed up the process of data storage standardization. The cooperation will strengthen the development of data storage business. UIT will develop a series of products based on Intel next generation data storage chips, such as IP SAN, FC SAN, NAS, VTL, data replication and encryption products. UIT will also fully utilize the 10G iSCSI, 8Gb FC, FCoE, 6Gb SAS, SSD (Solid State Drive) technology. The latest products will be available in the market in the first half of 2010. Meanwhile, UIT and Intel will use the next generation storage CPU platform to develop the latest cloud storage system; virtualization software and SAN environment of manage heterogeneous models.
UIT chief operation officer Ren Zhihui said, Today marks the start of the enhanced cooperation between UIT and Intel. It signifies the deep collaboration between UIT and Intel. UIT will bring its research and development; products and solutions to the collaboration. UIT sincerely cooperates with Intel, learning the leading platform and technology of Intel. UIT will provide clients with more products that fulfill the industrial requirements. It will provide a higher capacity data storage system at a more competitive price. The products will simplify data storage application process. UIT will contribute to the innovation and development of Chinas data storage industry with its strength.
Intel director for marketing storage Seth Bobroff said, Intel has been developing data storage business for many years. We have applied our processor technology in the data storage system to develop the next generation data storage chip. In the future, Intel will continue developing data storage business. Intel needs to use data storage technology and storage features to strengthen its IA development plan. This is an important development strategy for Intel, and this will enhance the capability of data storage system. UIT is a data storage service provider with the strongest research and development capability in China. The cooperation with UIT is the most strategic move of Intel to develop data storage business.
China Software Industry Association president Chen Chong said China needs to develop its own brand in data storage for national data security. The core element of developing Chinas own brand is to make use of innovative technology and the latest trend in data storage technology. The cooperation between UIT and Intel will open a new chapter in the innovation of Chinas data storage industry and data storage standardization. Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics Xie Changsheng said clients can achieve the maximum investment turnover if the data storage technology has fully fulfilled the industrial requirements. He said the cooperation of UIT and Intel will further promote the standardization of data storage.
UIT will develop hotspot data acceleration technology by cooperating with Intel. UIT Chief Operation Officer Bill Bao said the popularity of 3G, high-definition and Web 2.0 application have resulted in a rapid growth of data, which is a daunting challenge to corporations. However, only a few of the massive data are active. Most of the other data will not be referred to for a long period of time. The hotspot data acceleration technology of UIT will automatically save and classify the data, and transfer the active data to the solid state drive (SSD) with the use of Intels next generation data storage chip and SSD technology. Intels next generation data storage chip is renowned for its high bandwidth and high capability. The technology will ensure that the data be more readable and writable, and will activate the MAID function in the pool for inactive data to save energy. The hotspot data acceleration technology will enhance the data processing ability by 10 or even several hundred times and significantly reduce energy consumption. Meanwhile, the problem created by the short life span of the SSD can be tackled with the automatic detection and real-time data transfer system. The system will automatically transfer the data to the new SSD or hard drive when the existing SSD is due to expire, which can ensure the completeness of data. Clients can experience the excellent combination of a high efficient and high capability system. The combination of UIT technology and Intel hardware platform will bring clients with a high efficient and green data storage system.
